Another aspect to performing a self-assessment is taking time with your thoughts in a quiet place where you understand your mind set and how it is affecting you. You are what you are because of what your thoughts are. You are not what you are because your mom says so or a freind or some guy who doesn't even know you. You ultimately decide what you become even if you don't take any action. Your thoughts are what are driving you so why not take a look at them one at a time and dissect them, work through them and understand them.

This step 1 is a very important as are all of them but here is where we need to start off right. Let me tell you a story. When I was a child growing up in Los Angeles, I had a run in with a mexican boy name Louis. This guy would pick on me and hit me on a regular basis. One day I had enough and sat by myself in a corner and pondered why I felt the way I did by this guy. I sat for an hour till I finally worked through all of it and here is what I decided; I was bigger, stronger and could take a beating. I generall y had no fear but this guy owned me. This is what was really making me freeze up and would not allow me to move forward. Now the world I grew up in was unfortunately a tough one. I had to fight to survive in a tough neighborhood. So keep that in mind as we finish this story as I do not advocate fighting anymore. That is just what my enviroment dictated at teh time and I was not smart enough to change it.

So what i figured out was this; he psychologically had beaten me and there for had beaten me physically as well. I am sad to tell you 2 things about this incident. The first is I was in 2nd grade. No kid should ever have to go through the brutality that I did. The second is that I had to punch a kid in the face to change my whole life. That is exactly what I did once I had decided to change my mind set. The assessment I went through that day had a huge impact on my life. I do not punch to solve my issues any more but I never stop fighting to push through tough situations.

If you will push yourself and have the patience and discipline, you will be surprised what you can learn from yourself.
What Can Your Team Learn ?

This idea of taking a self-assessment  has been used for a very long time now by every successful team in history. Every championship team has once been on the bottom. This tends to lead to looking at what is going wrong, what is going right and ultimately what is our mind set? A team is a team and even if you are a team of doctors, police men or construction workers, you owe it to the team to set up an enviroment that facilitates this kind of exercise.

Think this might be fluff? If you think that you might have some in your corner but these will be the same people who do not have the answers to what is plaguing your team. It will be uncomfortable at first but after a while you will see how valuable it will become to your team.

It must first start as a team, then go to an individual assessment and then come back together as a team to bring it all together.  If you would like to learn more, please contact us.

What do you pay attention to everyday in your life? Do you take note of what you do in your hussle and bussle? Do you have a "routine?" Do you take the same path to the office everyday in your car? A full life, is a life that is observed and a real assessment takes place on a regular basis. Every part of your life needs to be open to inspection and have regular looks at what you are doing and more importantly, why you are doing it. Break down and take a part your life to see if you are living a life you want. This is not a destructive exercixe but more of a common sense approach to maintenancing who you are and who you want to be.

Self Assessment is the first tsep in the 10 Steps process and is very valuable. We need to stop our everyday life and analyze what is going on. Most unhappy people end up at this point in life because they don't keep an eye on how they have arrived at this point.
